Talking About New comics humor, one of the best comic book series Age of Gold, in my opinion.
New Funnies is a Golden Age comic book series that began just called humor. With the No. 64 (1942), the band comic began to focus on Walter Lantz characters, like Andy Panda and Oswald the rabbit. No problem with 65, it was renamed New Funnies.
Woody Woodpecker was also one of the characters Lantz appeared in the book. It was a new character at the time, he was a guest star on the Oswald the Rabbit stories for a year or two before receiving his own comic in New humor. At first, the Woody band was only one page. With 87 No question, he began to receive a longer strip. Of course, as time passed, Woody Woodpecker became "Biggest star in Walter Lantz and was featured on most New Funnies covers from the mid-1940s until be canceled in early 1960.
New Funnies is a great series. Not only issues fairly easy to find - some something surprising for a series of golden age comics - but many questions are not too expensive. Of course, the most sought after questions are the first questions when the book market, its format soon to feature the characters Lantz. The first questions centered Lantz can cost Hundreds of dollars in a near-nine. Some highlights issues that are question No. 65 (the first issue of New Funnies), No. 69 (pretty Halloween letter with Andy Panda, Raggedy Ann and Felix the Cat), No. 89 and No. 101 (two obligations World War II covers the war).
In my opinion, the best covers are those which have three main characters together Lantz: Woody Woodpecker, Andy Panda and Charlie Chicken, a character who appeared only in few cartoons, but was also in the comics from the 1940s to 1970s. He is one of those forgotten characters who never received the glory large scale. Chicken Charlie appeared in two cartoons Andy Panda in the 1940 Andy Panda Victory Gardens and meatless Tuesdays. Curiously, he fought in both cartoons Andy. They chased each other around the farm, Andy. I call it strange because in New Funnies (and his own series Panda Andy) Charlie was buddy Andy Panda.
Charlie appeared in print in New Funnies No. No. 79 as a small chicken. As far as I can tell from my research (I do not have all the questions), Charlie was a mature chicken in appearance next comic book. It was one of the stars in New Funnies decades or even get his own cartoon series.
Yes, if you're a fan of golden age cartoons, Golden Age comics Walter Lantz characters, I recommend picking up some old New issues through humor online comic stores or eBay. You will not be disappointed by the price or quality of stories. In addition, we must keep the classic Golden Age characters alive!
